Why do we take photos?

Author: LoveMyPhotos June 22, 2008

Why do we take photos?  Because we want to preserve memories. We want to remember the happy times. What better way to remember when the kids were small, or little Janie’s first dance recital, graduation, family vacations, weddings and much more? I can’t think of a better way to preserve it than with a photo.  When scrapbooking became so popular it enMemory Bookcouraged people to dig out all those old photos they had stored away in boxes and put them in a memory book.  Not only did they put the photos in a photo album but scrapbooking encouraged people to write about the photo creating a written & photographic history that could be enjoyed for years.

Now that the digital age is here we are finding new ways to preserve our memories. We take them from a memory card and store them on our computer.  We are back to no one seeing our photos. Instead of being in boxes they are on our computer hard drive.  Most of us don’t even get them on the walls anymore.  Researchers tells us that only 35 percent of the digital photos taken are ever printed.

Something new was needed to get those photos off our computers and out in the open.  Not to worry, we now have Digital Picture Frames.  What is wonderful about a Digital Photo Viewer is you can place hundreds of digital pictures in one digital frame in a continuous slide show. If you don’t currently own a Digital Photo Frame you owe it to yourself to get one and see what you have been missing!

Time travel…what an interesting concept.  Speaking of stepping back in time 170 years…. Can you imagine the look on someones face if you pulled a digital photo key chain out of your pocket and at the push of a tiny little button it displayed a digital slide show?  The look on people’s faces would be priceless and very intertaining!170 years is not that long ago but look at how far we have come. Even just going back 30 years in time people would still be amazed at how technology has advanced.  Taking pictures has never been more fun.  What if we could travel 50 years into the future?  I bet we would be amazed what we could do with our photos then.  For me, I will keep snapping and enjoying everything new that comes out that makes saving memories more and more enjoyable.

For Father’s Day, I bought my dad a great digital picture frame.  My dad lives far away from me and my family, so for a gift, we bought him a digital frame and loaded it with a memory card of my family.  This way, he can pick all kinds of great pictures of my kids and our dogs and show us off to all his golf buddies.

Tips for Purchasing the Right Digital Frame

digital photo frames

When it comes to digital photo frames, you have a plethora of choices out on the market and you want to find something that suits your needs.  Here are some factors to consider:

Make sure the frame you get has an SD card reader
Purchasing a frame that has internal memory can be a waste of time, as you have to plug your camera into it and moving pics around, as opposed to simply placing a memory card into a frame.

Look at the limitations/functions of your frame
Different frames will have different features.  If you’re looking at taking landscape pictures, then you want to make sure that you can control the look of the actual photograph through the frame (or your camera, if you have those functions).   If it’s for candid pictures, then you will look for less features.
